Banyoles- The lake represents the origin and main symbolic identity of the town of Banyoles. On the shore of the lake, between the weeping willows and the woodhouses (Casetas de Fusta), a series of emblematic buildings can be found standing in the water. These are the fishing houses (pesqueres). The pesqueres of the Estany de Banyoles are small buildings erected on the East bank of the lake, on the side which leads to the town. Each of them has its own individual name.

Monastery Sant Pere de Rodes. - The Christian doctrine at Sant Pere de Rodes ranks among the most significant within monasteries. The first official mention of the monastery originates from the year 878.

The first documentation of the existence of the monastery dates 878, it being mentioned as a simple monastery cell consecrated to Saint Peter, but it is not until 945 when an independent Benedictine monastery was founded, prevailed over by an abbot. Bound to the County of Empúries it reached its maximum splendor between the XI and XII centuries until its final decay in 17th century. Its increasing importance is reflected in its status as a point of pilgrimage.

The monastery was declared a national monument in 1930. In 1935 the Generalitat of Catalonia initiated the first restoration work.

Cadaqués- Artist Salvador Dalí often visited here in his childhood, and later kept a home in Port Lligat, a small bay next to the village. Other notable artists, including Mei Fren, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp, Antoni Pitxot, Henri-François Rey, Melina Mercouri and Maurice Boitel also spent time here. Cadaqués is mentioned in the story Tramontana by Gabriel García Márquez.

Port Lligat or Portlligat is a small village located in a small bay on Cap de Creus peninsula, near Cadaqués. The Island of Port Lligat is located at the entrance of the bay, separated from the mainland by a narrow 30 meter wide canal. Salvador Dalí lived in the village and his house has been converted into the Casa-Museo Salvador Dalí. Both the bay and the island have been represented in several of Dalí’s paintings, such as The Madonna of Port Lligat and The Sacrament of the Last Supper.
